I have met several Eagle Scouts over the years. Because of the hard work, sacrifices and grit required to earn the honor, the title of Eagle Scout ranks as one of the proudest achievements in a recipient’s life. The scout who chooses to pursue an Eagle Scout badge is required to create a project that will benefit a community. Which brings me to Jackson Davis, and Odessa, Florida.
Jackson came up with the idea of raising money in order to purchase an old school bus and converting it to a food truck. He raised $15,000 to purchase and renovate the bus. It took a year to raise the money and another 2 years to complete the renovation which involved 45 student volunteers and over 500 volunteer hours. He donated the bus to Messengers of Hope Mission in Odessa, Florida, which operates a food pantry. Messengers of Hope was challenged to provide food to areas in the community where families did not have the means to travel to a central location to pick up needed supplies.
One of the most important by-products of becoming an Eagle Scout is the Growth Mindset that it helps to build. Jackson clearly demonstrates what can happen when someone focuses on the process and not just the result. He enjoyed the journey of learning, growing, teamwork, hard work and helping his community even more than being rewarded with the Eagle Scout badge.
I’m inspired by Jackson’s Growth Mindset and commitment to helping his community. I believe after clicking the link below and watching a video interviewing Jackson, you will be inspired by too.
(As a side note; Jackson Davis was recognized for his community project by being chosen as the 2023 National Award Winner of the Glenn and Melinda Adams Award. This prestigious scouting award selects the scout whom the committee believes helped a community the most, by their unrelenting service, leadership and commitment to their project).
